The highly anticipated in-“Office” meeting between Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and his U.K. counterpart, David Brent (Ricky Gervais) finally happened Thursday night, and it was as awkwardly funny as fans of both versions of the show could have hoped.
The quick face-to-face took place when the former and soon-to-be former bosses ran into each other at the elevator. One fake British accent and one offensive impression later, and the two were on their way to becoming fast friends.
Gervais, co-creator of the U.S. and U.K. “Office,” long resisted a crossover cameo, as he “thought it would look a bit in-jokey or desperate,” but later decided it was a “safe environment to pop up in” after all.
