Kyle MacLachlan is getting around!
The man who plays Orson Hodge, husband of Bree on ABC's "Desperate Housewives, will have a big role in "Law & Order: Special Victim Unit's" Arnold Schwarzenegger-sex-scandal-inspired episode, reports Matt Webb Mitovich of TV Line. The website was also the first to report the show's plans to do such a storyline.
According to TV Line, MacLachlan is set to play politician Andrew Raines. And no surprise, Mr. Raines' family will -- like the Schwarzeneggers -- find itself drowning in a sex scandal. It was recently revealed that "Terminator" star Schwarzenegger had a secret child out of wedlock with his housekeeper, and is now going through a divorce with soon-to-be ex-wife Maria Shriver. How much the "SVU" episode will mirror the real-life family's drama and where it will present a twist of its own hasn't yet been revealed.
For MacLachlan -- who has also recently appeared on "How I Met Your Mother" and "Portlandia" -- this latest role will be his second appearance on "SVU," though the Raines character is new. He first guest starred on the procedural during season six's episode "Conscience," which aired in November 2009. On that episode, he played Dr. Brett Morton, whose son was killed by a young sociopath.
And that brings up the question: How many different roles can one guest star play on "SVU" before it gets a little odd? Remember when Diane Neal first played a lawyer who gang rapes a male stripper in a 2001 episode, then came back to play ADA Casey Novak starting in 2003? That definitely led to some double takes. Season 13 kicks off on NBC on Sept. 21 at 10 p.m.
