'Piña Colada Song' cut into dramatic film scenes really is funny

The idea to take one thing you've seen and smoosh it together with another thing you've heard is never your idea. It's some other guy on the Internet, and you're left laughing and wondering: why did that work and why didn't I think of it?The latest case in point comes via Tumblr, of course, where a new blog called Piña Colliding takes "Escape (The Piña Colada Song") by Rupert Holmes and inserts

The idea to take one thing you've seen and smoosh it together with another thing you've heard is never your idea. It's some other guy on the Internet, and you're left laughing and wondering: why did that work and why didn't I think of it?

The latest case in point comes via Tumblr, of course, where a new blog called Piña Colliding takes "Escape (The Piña Colada Song") by Rupert Holmes and inserts it into dramatic film scenes. It has no place being there. But after watching several clips, we've concluded it totally belongs there.

Created by the comedy duo of Sean Crespo and Carol Hartsell, Piña Colliding features scenes from "Jaws," "Silence of the Lambs," "Lord of the Rings," "The Untouchables," "Seven" and more.

There's something disarming and hilarious about the lyrics to the song kicking in after several seconds of those films' most gripping moments. The skinny-dipper attacked in the beginning of "Jaws," Hannibal Lecter violently escaping from his holding cell in "Silence of the Lambs," and Gandalf's fall off the bridge in "Lord of the Rings" ... who knew those scenes all lacked a certain something?

"If you like piña coladas, and getting caught in the rain / If you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain / If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape / Then I'm the love that you've looked for, write to me and escape."
