With Jimmy Fallon in "The Tonight Show" driver's seat, fans of musical comedy are truly getting a treat. His Tuesday night offering? Why, only the first ever "Tonight Show" lip-sync battle, which pitted the host against "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" star Paul Rudd.

The rules were simple: two songs, dueling performances, no actual singing. Neither man knew what songs the other had picked. Rudd went first with a wickedly emotive version of Tina Turner's 1984 hit "Better Be Good to Me."

Next up was Fallon, who, let's face it, owns this corner of the sandbox. Doing 1982's "Juke Box Hero" by Foreigner, he went into full rock mode without ever unbuttoning his jacket. And when he hit the chorus, he also hit the floor, going down on his knees to wail out words that weren't actually coming from his mouth.

Song No. 2 for Rudd stayed firmly in big retro approach, as he forewent the microphone (which is pretty superfluous anyway in a lip-sync contest) to get into full Freddie Mercury mode as he sang Queen's 1979 tune "Don't Stop Me Now."

That was all Fallon needed to see. The late-night host genuflected at the end of Rudd's performance and announced they had a winner.

"I concede! I concede!" Fallon declared, holding Rudd's arm as if the actor were a prizefighter. "The champ!"

Fans were equally impressed by the actor's lip-syncing chops.
