Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta-Jones have been on "a little bit of a break," but as the Oscar- and Emmy-winning actor told Jay Leno on "The Tonight Show" Monday, he has hopes they can find their way back to one another.

"I've been away for a while, but everything should hopefully be on the up-and-up," he said of his 12-year marriage to the actress. Douglas, now 69, wed Zeta-Jones, now 44, in 2000. "Sometimes people take a little bit of a break, but it doesn't necessarily mean that's the end. So I'm very hopeful."

Douglas said their two children, 13-year-old Dylan and 10-year-old Carys are "doing great," and in fact Dylan is hoping to continue the Douglas acting dynasty that began with Michael's father Kirk.

"Dylan doesn't see any reason to do anything else because he wants to act," said Douglas. "Doesn't want school or anything."

Last week, Douglas made headlines when he admitted to publicly lying about the type of cancer he was diagnosed with. The actor had tongue cancer, not throat cancer, as he told the press, but said his doctor had advised him to mislead people. Douglas has been cancer-free for two years now.
