Meat Loaf is an actor, a rock star, an all-round showman and, as he confessed during a Tuesday morning visit to TODAY, he's "a giant ham."

It's a trait that comes in handy when the "Bat Out of Hell" singer takes the stage for the improvisational, audience-interaction-packed show "RockTellz & CockTails" in Las Vegas.

"Here I get to do stand-up; I get to do characters that develop," he explained of his routine that also features plenty of his classic tunes.

But Meat Loaf admitted the show could use some improvement when it comes to the audience participation portion.

"The audience ... the problem with that is sometimes they don't ask good questions," he said. "They stand up and go, 'Hey, will you say hello to my grandmother?' And I'm going, 'Oh, my God! That's not a question.'"

And when the crowd isn't asking non-questions, they're making pesky commentary.

"I still do 'Bat Out of Hell' and 'Took the Words' and 'Paradise' and 'Two Out of Three' in the same key we recorded," he explained. "It's just as you get older your voice gets deeper."

Which leads some picky listeners to point out, 'Oh, you didn't sound like you used to."

Meat Loaf's response, "Well, no!"

The rocker takes it all in stride. In fact, he loves his Vegas show. It allows his fans to speak up, and it allows him "to just be nuts."

Meat Loaf returns to "RockTellz & CockTails" Feb. 13 - Apr. 3 at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
