TODAY’s Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer made a joint appearance Tuesday on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” and revealed how they worked together to conceal Savannah's pregnancy during the Winter Olympics while playing drinking games in Sochi.

Matt said he figured out Savannah was up to something one night at dinner with the TODAY team, when a restaurant employee taught everyone how to take shots, military-style, off their elbows, and he noticed she was faking it. He said a “lightbulb went on” when he got back to his hotel room.

“I texted her, 'Are you pregnant?’ And I got this very curt message back. Like, 'Yes. Shut up. Don’t tell anyone,'” he told Meyers.

Savannah said that's not exactly how she responded.

“What I said was, ‘How can you ask me that when (Russian President Vladimir) Putin is listening to us!’” she joked.

In the Orange Room on Wednesday, Matt explained that the group then went out to several additional dinners where Savannah "would hand me the shot” so he could surreptitiously take it for her, masking that she was skipping alcohol.

“So Savannah owes me a liver right now,” he said.

Savannah didn't publicly reveal her pregnancy until about a month after she returned from Russia.

TODAY's Natalie Morales said she'd also noticed that Savannah had started to shy away from alcohol during the Sochi trip. “Some of us caught on to that,” she said.

And Savannah said she appreciated Natalie's discretion.

"Here’s the difference between you, Natalie, and you, Matt: Natalie suspected but did not ask. Matt went all 'Matt Lauer' on me," Savannah said.

During their "Late Show" appearance, Meyers also showed a clip of Matt demonstrating the nursery rhyme "This Little Piggy" with Savannah's feet. If you missed that gem, you can catch the clip here
