'Mad Men,' 'Homeland' and 'Girls' get Emmy recognition

Late night’s “Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel braved the a.m. hours -- clad in pajamas – alongside actress Kerry Washington on Thursday to announce the nominations for the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

“This could be just at good at noon,” Kimmel grumbled before he and Washington revealed the list of nominees, which included expected players -- such as two of the men in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama face-off, “Mad Men’s” Jon Hamm and “Breaking Bad’s” Bryan Cranston -- and a few surprises -- including the notable absence of Hugh Laurie for his final season of “House.”

Like last year, this year, “Mad Men” is the big winner before the awards are even handed out, with 17 nominations overall. “Modern Family" isn’t far behind with 14. But standouts like “Homeland” and “Girls” could shake things up before the big show.
