8:29 p.m. ET: Honorable outfit mentions go to Halle Barry in a nude, crystal-encrusted Marchesa, a Dior decked Nicole Kidman and Gwyneth Paltrow, who’s working that tall, platinum Calvin Klein gown.

But the red carpet winner of the night has to be Jennifer Hudson in that tangerine Versace jaw-dropper.

8:18 p.m. ET: Show time is just 12 minutes away!

Actress-turned-actress-that-sings-all-the-time Gwyneth Paltrow just told Tim Gunn that Jay-Z is her dream duet partner.

“I think we’d be a good combination.”

If you say so, Gwyneth.

7:53 p.m. ET: “The King’s Speech” co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Mr. Darcy, er, Colin Firth, made an appearance on “Red Carpet Live.” According to the pair, they wouldn't be shocked by wins, but they're just as ready to leave without Oscar gold.

“Even if the whole film goes home empty-handed, because there are historic precedents for that, this film has scored with audiences and it’s scored with our working relationship," Rush explained.

Yeah, but with 12 noms, a win-free streak for "The King's Speech" would be a heck of a shocker.

7:47 p.m. ET: Enough with the glitzy gowns. I want to see some gold-dipped guys soon.

7:40 p.m. ET: Tim Gunn, you aren’t the only one impressed by Marisa Tomei’s midnight purple vintage dress. Nice.

Oh, look, yet another star knocks out in red. That would be Sandra Bullock in a skin-tight Vera Wang number.

7:13 p.m. ET: When Ryan Seacrest asked Justin Timberlake about his Facebook usage, “The Social Network” star said, “Not so much.” Heh. Evidently he’d rather go golfing or snowboarding — or you know, walk around looking sharp in a Tom Ford tux.

6:54 p.m. ET: Whoa! Just got a closer look at that tomato red (correction: tangerine orange) Versace gown Jennifer Hudson is wearing. Unbelievable. I think if  I looked that good in any dress, I’d wear it everywhere for the rest of my days.

6:41 p.m. ET: Michelle Williams, with her modest Chanel dress and perfect pixie hair, is gorgeous. No shock there.

What do we think of this sparkling navy gown Amy Adams is wearing? I remain undecided, not to mention really distracted. It's hard to pay attention to Adams with the parade of red gowns going by in the background (Jennifer Hudson and Oscar host Anne Hathaway). Looks like red is the color of the night.

6:28 p.m. ET: Hailee Steinfeld could not look cuter. She’s wearing a Marchesa, 1950s-inspired, flesh-toned dress that she actually helped design. Is there anything that 14-year-old can’t do? She’s certainly mastered the humble red carpet quote.

“I’m here. That’s my reward," Steinfeld told E's Ryan Seacrest. "I can’t ask for anything else.”

And here’s Mila Kunis. She’s wrapped in a pale lavender gown that looks like it’s poised to star in its very own wardrobe malfunction later this evening.

6: 15 p.m. ET: Best actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence (“Winter’s Bone”) starts the evening off on the right fashion foot in a long, silky, form-fitting red gown.

Ladies, the bar has officially been set.

Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”), best supporting actress nominee, is the next up. She shows off a high-collared, highly reflective dress. Hmm.

Lawrence remains in the lead.

Of course, a background shot of Mila Kunis proves stiff competition is on the way.

6:00 p.m. ET: Ready for a long night of film honors and fashion flops? Well, ready or not the 83rd Academy Awards is set to begin soon and the red carpet pre-show coverage is already underway.

For the red carpet portion of tonight’s Oscar live blog, I’ll be wearing a grey t-shirt. I would share the designer, but alas, the tag is long gone. I’ve decided to team up that deceptively casual topper with its classic fashion friend — black yoga pants. Talk about your timeless looks!

Now, on to snarking about the finery far better dressed people are wearing. Oh, and expect some film-related talk, too.

More soon…
