Kris Jenner 'happy' with Bruce after split, not so happy with his ponytail

"Keeping Up With the Kardashians" will soon be back for a new season, and given the headline-grabbing events in the lives of all of the Kardashians — from Kim and Kanye West's bundle of joy, to the breakup of Khloe and Lamar Odom, and Kris Jenner and husband Bruce — it promises to be an interesting one. But it's that last split that will first take center stage on the show, and the matriarch of the family promises that while it's shocking, it's not sad.

"We had been living apart," Kris explained of the upcoming on-air coverage of the separation during a Thursday morning visit to TODAY. "Bruce was living in Malibu, so (we decided) to just come out and say it formally to everybody at the same time. But I think you see a lot of what's going on in our lives, especially in the first episodes of season nine. It's kind of shocking."

But while Kris and Bruce now live apart, they aren't truly divided. When asked whether the two have considered an official divorce, she replied, "I don't think we've made that decision."

"We're best friends. I mean, we talk all the time," Jenner assured. "Right now, it's just ... we're happier the way that we are right now. We're really happy. Life is normal, except we're living in two different houses."

She's in the Kardashian mansion with their two daughters (Kendall and Kylie) and Kim's family, while he's in his own place — with his ponytail.

"I try to manage it," the self-dubbed momager said of Bruce's new 'do. "It needs its own manager, I think. I think we ganged up on him as a group. Kendall and Kylie are on ponytail patrol, as we speak, trying to get rid of it."

As for the family's other recent spit, Kris admitted that one is a bit more difficult.

"Well, it's always tough when one of your kids goes through something like this," she explained. "My heart is always with them 150 percent. Khloe, you know, it's tough what she's been going through, but it's like we're just doing the best we can."

Viewers can see it all for themselves when the "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" kicks off its ninth season — a reality TV milestone Kris "never in a million years" thought she'd see.

The show returns to E! for with a two-night season premiere Jan. 19 and 20 at 9 p.m.
