Justin Long ostensibly came on TODAY Tuesday to discuss his new indie movie, "A Case of You." But the real discussion took a hair-pin turn, as the anchors and Long focused on his "porn star" mustache.
"I'd like to say, 'You're welcome, America,'" said Long, who stars in and co-wrote "Case," as he stroked his facial hair. "It's horrifying. I'm sorry. Most everyone in my life is very much against it, but it's for a job."
But, he assured the audience, "I'm not playing a '70s porn star."
Willie Geist noted, "I'm a huge fan of the other Justin Long, but I think you do some good work too."
Turning to the camera, Long noted, "Willie's alluding to, in case you don't know, if you're living under a rock, that there's a porn star named Justin Long. ... His friends call me the 'poor man's' him."
Fortunately, there was something else worth talking about, too — the movie. In it, Long's writer character romances Evan Rachel Wood's barista character by constructing a persona online that he thinks will impress her — and then has a hard time living up to it. "This guy takes it a little bit too far, and is very disingenuous," said Long, then added one more reason to see it: "I'm not wearing this," he said, touching the 'stache. "This does not make an appearance."
But heads up, "Game of Thrones" fans: Peter Dinklage does make an appearance in the film.
"A Case of You" is out on iTunes, on Video on Demand and in theaters on Nov. 6.
