Jessica Simpson said there’s a reason why she’s good at designing clothes for women — her varying waistline.

“Well, I think that I can relate to every woman out there. I have been every size there is, so I know how to dress every body type,” said Simpson, a Weight Watchers spokeswoman who heads a billion-dollar fashion empire that includes clothing, handbags, footwear, jewelry and other accessories.

“I truly believe that it's not just about high fashion,” she told Savannah Guthrie on TODAY Monday. “You know, we all need pieces in our wardrobe that are fashionable but accessible, wearable, you know, and affordable. I think that that's really what has made the brand such a success.”

Simpson is about to add home and baby lines to that empire. The mother of two young children also is planning a grand wedding to fiance Eric Johnson.

“It’ll definitely be extravagant. I don't do things small,” she said.

Simpson has come a long way since she shot to stardom as a singer, recording her first album at 19, and later becoming the center of an MTV reality show with her former husband, Nick Lachey.

These days, her life is focused on her business and raising her family.

“We get up with the kids. We do breakfast. I'm always with my loving fiancé who I adore more than anything and, well, of course, my kids. They're all equal,” she said.

Simpson said she is building a recording studio in her house so she can return to her music, which has taken a backseat to her fashion empire and her latest endeavor, a signature perfume.

Asked what she would tell her old self about the future and how to handle fame, Simpson laughed.

“Hold on! this is going to be a long ride,” she said. "And I couldn't be happier."
