Jacob Lusk has 'Idol' regrets

While ousted “American Idol” contender Jacob Lusk doesn’t regret his time on the show, he does regret some of the decisions he made before his pre-final-four elimination — specifically those all-important, style-shifting song selections.“I was trying to show America different sides of me, trying to garner new fans,” the gospel crooner explained during a Tuesday morning visit to TODAY.

While ousted “American Idol” contender Jacob Lusk doesn’t regret his time on the show, he does regret some of the decisions he made before his pre-final-four elimination — specifically those all-important, style-shifting song selections.

“I was trying to show America different sides of me, trying to garner new fans,” the gospel crooner explained during a Tuesday morning visit to TODAY. “In the end, I think I should have just stayed being myself.”

Still, whether Lusk’s fate came down to unfortunate choices or just plain vocal skill, the singer is happy with his abbreviated run on the televised talent show. Just six years ago, as a teen out on his own, he was homeless and hungry, now Lusk feels as though he’s “made it.”

“It’s one of those things where I always said I was going to make it,” the 23-year-old explained. “And that’s probably why I went through some of the things I went through. They were choices. I could have had better jobs, and I said, ‘No, I’m not, because I’m going to do this music thing, I’m going to hold out and I’m going to make it.’ And I did.”
