Shortly after Giuliana Rancic announced on TODAY that she has breast cancer, the E! news anchor underwent a double lumpectomy. Giuliana is home from the hospital resting now, and her husband Bill gave TODAY an update on how Giuliana is faring, post-surgery.

But first, he described the day of Giuliana's surgery, saying it began with a two-hour MRI where guide wires were inserted into one breast so that the surgeon knew what area to remove. Following that, Giuliana had a mammogram and insertion of a guide wire on the other breast, and from there surgery to remove the cancerous lumps.

"She's a trooper, she pulled through it and was kind of relieved to get it over with and get the cancer out and is doing well at home ... I'm adding nurse to my resume now," Bill said.

Giuliana's prognosis remains good. "We're viewing this as a gift. It was caught very very early and we're going back to the doctor tomorrow," Bill said. "They had to remove a couple of lymph nodes and we're hoping we get a report tomorrow."

Bill also said that Giuliana hopes return to work next week, and that this experience has already changed her outlook. "She's really viewing life a little bit differently. It's funny when you go through a situation like this, it really turns the volume down on the things that really aren't that important."
