Robin Quivers opened up on "The Howard Stern Show" Monday about her lengthy absence from the studio, saying she has been battling cancer.

The longtime radio sidekick said she developed cancer from endometrial, or uterine, tissue.

"There was endometrial tissue outside of where it belonged and the cancer developed from that," Quivers told Stern and the show's audience. "The people I was originally working with had never seen that before."

But the good news is that Quivers said chemotherapy treatments have worked and doctors believe she is now cancer free.

"About three months ago, I go into my doctor's office, she just looks at everything, she goes, 'You're cured,'" said Quivers, who has been broadcasting remotely for over a year.

Quivers, 61, revealed in June 2012 that she had undergone surgery to remove a grapefruit-sized growth. "I had a major surgery, a major abdominal surgery — and a mass was removed from my pelvic area," Quivers said on the "Stern Show" last summer.

On Monday, the @sternshow Twitter feed posted a series of tweets during the Sirius XM broadcast, including a quote from Stern, who said, "I gotta be honest, I thought she was a goner."

The show also noted that Quivers did not try medical marijuana during her treatments, and that "Stern Show" writer Benjy Bronk was denied visitation.

Last summer, on the day of Quivers' surgery, Stern told his audience, "Doing a show without Robin is like cutting off my left arm. Or my right arm. Or maybe both."

Stern and Quivers have worked together for more than 30 years.

"The thought of losing you, it was unbearable," Stern told Quivers on Monday. "I would just get into tremendous crying jags."
