Monday night, "Dancing With the Stars" all-star Gilles Marini wasn’t wearing the "Super Gilles" costume that he donned in season eight (for his quickstep with then-partner Cheryl Burke), but he jumped into superhero mode anyway after judge Carrie Ann Inaba fell off her chair and onto the floor.
Inaba was so overjoyed while critiquing Marini’s sexy rumba with current partner Peta Murgatroyd that she lost her balance. Marini, a former firefighter, feared she may have hurt herself on impact. He and host Tom Bergeron raced over to the fallen judge’s side.
“I just picked her up,” he told reporters in the post-show press line. “Thank God, she didn’t get hurt.”
“She didn’t fall because of the chair,” Murgatroyd quipped. “She fell because of Gilles’ sexiness!”
Later, pro hoofer Karina Smirnoff theorized it was her fall during last week’s hip hop routine that contributed to Inaba’s spill.
“When she fell, I thought, ‘This is horrible!’” Smirnoff shared, deadpanning, “I started a curse.”
Luckily, it turned out Inaba was more embarrassed than she was injured after her mishap. But was Marini ready to perform mouth-to-mouth on Inaba if she needed resuscitation?
He replied, “Hell yeah, man!”
Marini’s not limiting his gallant behavior to helping Inaba. Later this week, he’s bringing Murgatroyd to the set of "Switched at Birth," the ABC Family series on which Marini stars.
He hopes to help his co-star land a guest gig on his series by introducing her to his producers.
Marini affirms: “If they don’t use her they’re crazy!”
