Lisa Kudrow is adding one more “friend” to her clients on “Web Therapy.”
Entertainment Weekly reports that fellow “Friends” co-star David Schwimmer will be joining Kudrow for four episodes on the second season of her Showtime series.
“Web Therapy” was a hit online comedy created and written by Kudrow that was translated for the smaller screen last year. Kudrow plays Fiona Wallice, a quirky therapist who developed a new form on online therapy using video chat. The first season of the Showtime version mostly revolved around re-creating the web shows for the television audience, but the new 10-episode second season, will feature new material. The premiere date has not yet been announced.
According to EW, Schwimmer will be playing a troubled man named Newell Miller. Newell once witnessed a romantic romp between Fiona and his college professor dad, and has suffered long-lasting damage to his love life. For some reason, he’s only attracted to women who look like Fiona, so expect some awkward sexual moments between them. (It’s over between Fiona and his father, so you don’t have to worry about the question of whether they were or were not on a break if anything goes down between Newell and her.)
The actor who played Ross has moved far past his zany paleontologist character. Schwimmer has been focusing on his directorial efforts including “Run Fatboy Run,” starring Simon Pegg, and “Trust,” with Clive Owen. He’s also done notable voice work in the “Madagascar” movies, and made his off-Broadway debut in “Fault Lines.”
Schwimmer isn’t the first of the “Friends” to stop by “Web Therapy.” Courteney Cox guest starred as an Internet psychic who lost her powers last season, and was nominated for a Streamy Award in 2010 for her performance on the show.
The female stars of “Friends” have frequently helped out on their former co-stars. Kudrow has been to “Cougar Town,” and Jennifer Aniston stopped by two of Cox's shows, “Dirt” and “Cougar Town.”
But this is the first time Schwimmer and Kudrow will be on the same set together since the end of the hit show.
While any mini-“Friends” reunion is a good thing, we’re still holding out for the big, rumored “Friends” movie that would bring all six actors and actresses back together – even though Matt LeBlanc quashed our dreams and said at the Golden Globes there are no plans for a film.
Until that happens, we’ll be sitting on our couches, drinking lattes from our oversized coffee cups and waiting for the Schwimmer-Kudrow “Web Therapy” episodes to air.
