"Friday Night Lights" was a bestselling book, then a movie, then a television show. But Peter Berg, who directed the original film, developed the TV series, and is a cousin of Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the book, says a new movie isn't going to happen.
"There’s not gonna be a movie," Berg told Collider.com. "We talked about it, some people thought it was a good idea, some didn’t; I’ve come to believe it’s probably not a good idea and I seriously doubt it’s gonna happen.”
Berg's not alone. Taylor Kitsch, who played Tim Riggins on the TV show, told New York Magazine's Vulture that there's no need for another film following Coach Taylor and crew.
"I'll just say no," Kitsch said, slamming his fist on the table for emphasis. "No, period. I'm not doing it. I'm never gonna be in that movie. There was already a movie! And the show ended (expletive) spot-on. We're good."
Some fans were saddened by the news, but others agreed with Kitsch that the show's ending was enough.
And what about the Taylors themselves? Kyle Chandler, who played Coach Eric Taylor, has repeatedly said a movie isn't in the cards.
Chandler's on-screen wife, actress Connie Britton, who played Tami Taylor, was more positive about movie potential back in August, telling Ladies' Home Journal that she had seen a script for a potential "FNL" movie. But then in October, Britton told Andy Cohen on "Watch What Happens Live" that the film seemed less certain.
"There's been a lot of talk about a lot of things," Britton said. "I love the idea. But my former husband, Coach Eric Taylor (thinks the show already wrapped up)."
