Fred Armisen strikes up the band at 'Late Night with Seth Meyers'

Those "Saturday Night Live" bonds run deep, it seems. Fellow "SNL" alum Fred Armisen will be joining "Late Night with Seth Meyers" to lead the show's band.

The "Portlandia" star will bring his 8G Band with him, but he won't be giving up on his nutty comedy about the city where the dream of the '90s is alive, according to a tweet from Meyers.

Armisen has been a musician for decades, serving as a drummer for the punk-rock band Trenchmouth in the late 1980s, and playing drums for The Blue Man Group in the 1990s. He's also performed music on "Portlandia."

In January 2013, Armisen and Questlove of The Roots, the house band for "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," engaged in a drumoff after the show taped an episode.

Not to be outdone by Meyers and Armisen's news, Fallon announced his show's opening-week lineup.
