No one was punched in the making of this photograph. At least that's the hope after Sean Penn and his one-time wife Madonna were snapped together in New York on Tuesday night.
The actor, 53, and the pop star, 55, were at the Gagosian Theater for a screening of Madonna's "Secret Project Revolution," a 17-minute film she co-directed with Steven Klein. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is tied to an initiative called Art for Freedom, which will encourage others to submit video, music, poetry and photography that addresses persecution around the world and the personal meaning of freedom and revolution.
Penn and Madonna were married from 1985 to 1989. During that time the actor became famous for his short fuse when it came to paparazzi trying to get a glimpse of the bad boy and the Material Girl. Penn throwing a punch was to the 1980s what Penn delivering a kick was to 2010.
The actor even famously and allegedly dangled a photographer from a ninth-story hotel balcony after finding the shooter in his room during the time when he was making the film "Shanghai Surprise."
Tuesday night it was all love as Penn dangled his arm around Madge for a snap — complete with smug smirk.
Also in attendance at the event? Another semi-famous (and alleged) pugilist — Lindsay Lohan!
