Singer, actress and theme park owner Dolly Parton is already busy touring for her upcoming release, "Blue Smoke," but the Tennessee native plans to take a break on May 13, the day the album drops, to perform on TODAY.
The 68-year-old entertainer joined TODAY via satellite from her Dollywood park in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., Friday morning to share the news.
"I would love to do that," Parton told Savannah Guthrie when asked about taking the TODAY stage. "I've done that years ago, and I absolutely had a ball. I watch you all the time when you have the guests on, so I would be honored and thrilled to come be with all of you (and) promote my new record. You know me, always going to be promoting something — might as well do it with you!"
Parton had that same "might as well" attitude in place when asked about a possible reunion with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, the co-stars from her 1980 hit film "9 to 5."
"Well, I don't know exactly what you're talking about, but whatever they're doing, I'm in!" she said with a smile. "Whatever it is, all I can say is we better get to it quick or it will be '95' instead of '9 to 5.'"
For the record, Fonda and Tomlin do have a reunion of sorts in the works, but it's not actually related to that big screen classic. Instead the actresses are pairing up for a new Netflix series called "Grace and Frankie."
But performance news and reunion talk weren't the only things Parton shared on TODAY. She also announced that Dollywood has big news for its 29th season — an added attraction.
"We have a new roller coaster called Firechaser Express," she revealed. "It's really kind of set in the 1940s, when all the volunteer firefighters here in the Smoky Mountains were really active. It's got a lot of atmosphere, but it's a wonderful ride, tailor-made for families, so the little kids can ride along with their parents or their older brothers and sisters."
And it packs some added fun.
"It's got one element that's a little different from most coasters," Parton teased. "It goes forward, and then halfway through, it goes backwards! So they're telling me that's a real unique thing."
Unique, like Parton herself.
