Diminishing return? New 'SNL' promos joke that Andy Samberg is too big to host

Andy Samberg will feel right at home hosting "Saturday Night Live" this weekend — or will he? New promo spots for the season finale joke that Samberg, who left the cast in 2012 and now stars in the critically acclaimed police sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," has let success go to his head.

"I'm so happy you're back, man," effuses longtime cast member Kenan Thompson in one promo. "I'm gonna shout it from the rooftops: Andy's back!"

But the convivial mood starts to disintegrate when Samberg's post-"SNL" ego peeks through. In another promo, he asks to be identified with a distinguished-looking graphic that reads "Golden Globe Winning Actor Andy Samberg." Thompson gets a graphic, too, but it simply reads “kenan” (in Comic Sans, no less).

Another teaser suggests that "SNL" isn't exactly mourning Samberg's absence anyway. "Andrew, welcome to 'SNL.' It's a fun place," Thompson says stiffly. "The show moves pretty fast, so strap in."

"Kenan, I know how the show works," Samberg says. "I was a cast member."

"You were? I don’t remember you," Thompson shrugs.

See how well Samberg remembers his sketch comedy skills when the show airs this Saturday at 11:30 p.m. on NBC. The musical guest is St. Vincent.
