Brittany Murphy's final movie features chilling trailer

Months before actress Brittany Murphy's sudden death in 2009 at age 32, she had completed work on the psychological thriller "Something Wicked." But while Murphy's part was finished, other work on the film was not, and so it sat unseen for years. The film is finally coming to theaters April 4, and a new trailer shows Murphy as a psychiatrist pulled into a deadly, creepy situation with a young couple who are nearly killed in a horrific car accident.

The trailer includes plenty of horror-movie standbys, including a sinister masked figure, plenty of dark rooms, a threatening message written on glass, talk of stalkers, and numerous horrific crashes, involving both cars and a train.

"There's evil in this house, I saw it with my own eyes," Murphy's character, Susan, declares.

Murphy's character "observes the couple's deteriorating relationship and sets out to determine what sinister forces are driving the madness," writer-producer Joe Colleran told People. He also had high praise for Murphy's work, saying "I would describe Brittany's performance as the most chilling performance of her career."

He also told the L.A. Times, "We wanted to make her fans proud of her last performance -- but we also wanted to make her mom and dad proud of it."

Not every mall multiplex will be showing the film. It opens April 4 in Eugene, Ore., where it was filmed, and then moves into other theaters in the Pacific Northwest.

"The better we do in theaters, the more cities will be added so we need your help getting the word out," urges a post on the film's Facebook page.

Murphy collapsed in her bathroom on Dec. 20, 2009, with the Los Angeles Coroner later giving the cause of death as pneumonia, with contributing factors of anemia and multiple drug intoxication from prescription and over-the-counter medication.
