It had all the emblems of a random Bill Murray encounter: A sporty setting. Proximity to beer and junk food. Photos with surprised strangers. But wouldn’t you know? The actor’s appearance at St. Paul Saints baseball game in Minnesota on Thursday night wasn’t weird in the least.

Murray is a minority-stake owner of the independent team, which was playing the final game on its home field at Midway Stadium before the aging sports center gets demolished, the Star-Tribune reports

As game time approached, the actor showed up to take tickets at the gate and pose for snapshots with fans. Local photographer Ben Garvin shared a glimpse of the action on social media:

Murray then made his way to the field, where he caught the ceremonial opening pitch from St. Paul mayor Christopher Coleman — and promptly hurled the ball into the stands.

Thanks in part to their guest star player, the team — which will move to a new stadium next spring — broke an attendance record for the game, leading the team to quip via Twitter, "Maybe we should close a ballpark every night."
