SPOILER ALERT: Do not keep reading if you haven't seen the finale yet. You have been warned.

The fact that the highly-anticipated series finale of “Big Love” ended in bang isn’t exactly shocking, but the who, how and why of it certainly came as a huge surprise.

After five seasons of finding himself on the wrong side of men who wouldn’t hesitate to kill him, in the end, Bill Henrickson didn’t stare down the barrel of a gun held by Alby Grant (again) or Hollis “Sincerely Yours” Green or even the ghost of Roman Grant. Instead, Bill fell from the fire power of Carl, the once-mild-mannered neighbor who doesn’t appreciate anyone messing with his lawn.

While Carl’s decision to kill Bill for having the emasculating nerve to re-sod his yard wasn’t expected, it tied up plenty of loose ends nicely. No more worries about jail time, politics, failed businesses and dissatisfied wives for the troubled patriarch. Bill is in a better place (the afterlife version of the dining room, evidently), and wives Barb, Nicki and Margene are now free to follow their own paths.
