Wait: Saul Goodman was not always Saul Goodman?

That's one of the many things "Breaking Bad" fans will learn in AMC's spin-off series "Better Call Saul," which is focused on the hilarious, sleazy popular lawyer played by Bob Odenkirk.

Set six years before Saul met Walter White (Bryan Cranston), the show will reveal that Saul had another identity before he got involved with The One Who Knocks. Saul was a small-time lawyer named Jimmy McGill who works with and against "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), the only other character appearing regularly from the original Emmy-winning series.

"Better Call Saul" follows Jimmy's transformation into Saul, who claimed to put “criminal” in “criminal lawyer.” Michael McKean ("This is Spinal Tap") will play Saul's brother, Chuck, executive producer Peter Gould announced Friday in Los Angeles.

"We made a choice to follow this character because he intrigued us and because we didn’t feel we were done with this world of 'Breaking Bad,'" Gould said.

The show will premiere in early 2015.
