PASADENA, Calif. -- Winning! Fans of Charlie Sheen and his FX sitcom, "Anger Management," have reason to celebrate. Not only did the comedy get a 90-episode pick up in August, the show is going to air almost endlessly for the next two years.
"('Anger Management') will basically stay on the air without interruption for two years," John Landgraf, the president and general manager of FX Networks, told reporters Wednesday at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour. He further explained that FX will have "have essentially 45 new episodes a year."
Many sitcoms generally take several months off between seasons, as well as a shorter winter break, and air about 24 episodes a season.
"We’ll take six weeks off a year (for holidays and major sporting events), but other than that, there will be a new original episode of 'Anger Management' on Thursday nights at 9 for two years," Landgraf said.
The show stars Sheen as anger-management therapist Charlie Goodson, Selma Blair as his best friend and fellow therapist, and Daniela Bobadilla as his teenage daughter. Actor Martin Sheen, dad to Charlie, made guest appearances in season one, but has been added as a regular character going forward. Landgraf said the elder Sheen would appear about every third episode.
Fans can also likely expect the cast to continue growing.
"They’ve got 90 episodes," Landgraf said. "They’re probably going to introduce a lot of characters over time, yeah."
"The Voice" coach Cee Lo Green has already signed on to guest-star, and Charlie Sheen has invited former "Two and a Half Men" co-star Angus T. Jones to appear.
"Anger Management" returns Jan. 17 at 9 p.m. on FX.
