Allison Williams, star of HBO's "Girls" and a classically-trained singer, has been cast as Peter Pan in NBC's telecast of "Peter Pan Live!" coming this winter.

“I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true,” Williams said in a news release from NBC. "It’s such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I’m very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides,” added Williams, "what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?"

Williams also showed her excitement on Instagram, which she posted on for the first time ever on Wednesday with proof that this is a role she has was born to play.

Lena Dunham, the creator, writer and star of "Girls," also thinks Williams is a great choice for the role.

The telecast, which will air on Dec. 4, also features Christopher Walken as Captain Hook.

“We couldn’t be happier that Allison Williams is our Peter Pan,” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment, said in a statement. “She’s a lovely rising star on the award-winning show ‘Girls’ — where she occasionally shows off her incredible vocal talent — and we think she will bring the perfect blend of ‘boyish’ vulnerability and bravado to save the day against Christopher Walken’s powerful Captain Hook.”

Williams plays Marnie Michaels on the Emmy Award-nominated "Girls" and has sung on the show and in other projects. She also recorded several songs as Marnie for the "Girls" soundtrack and has appeared on "The Mindy Project" on Fox and "The League" on FX.

"Allison Williams is a major find," said executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "She will reinvent the iconic role of Peter Pan with her wit, her warmth, her dynamic flying and her wonderful musical abilities. The score will be sung beautifully and introduced to a whole new generation of families."

Actress Mary Martin starred as Peter Pan in the original Broadway production in 1954, winning a Tony Award, and actresses like Sandy Duncan and Cathy Rigby portrayed the iconic character in later productions.
