'After Earth,' 'Movie 43' take Razzie Awards 'worst' honors

Sketch comedy misfire "Movie 43" is the big "winner" of this year's Razzie Awards, taking worst picture, worst director, and worst screenplay at the annual pre-Oscars event, which celebrates the poorest movies and performances of the year. Given that the film — which featured cameos from Halle Berry, Uma Thurman, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman, Richard Gere and Kate Winslet, among others — had 19 screenwriters and 13 directors, the dubious honor is widely shared.

The Smith family's sci-fi box office bomb "After Earth" also nabbed three of the event's gold spray-painted statues. Jaden Smith took worst lead actor, while Will Smith was named worst supporting actor, and together the duo, described in the ceremony as being "stranded on Planet Nepotism" in the movie, took the trophy for worst screen combo.

Worst actress went to Tyler Perry, dressed in drag, for his performance as the cross-dressing character in "A Madea Christmas," while worst supporting actress went to Kim Kardashian for her role in Perry's Temptation.

Adam Sandler's "Grown Ups 2" was the front runner going into the night with eight nominations, but had the good fortune to lose in every category, going home empty handed.

This year's Razzies were held on Hollywood Boulevard at the Ignited Spaces venue – not far from Sunday night's 86th Academy Awards. Founded in 1980, the Razzies were established as "a logical antidote to Tinsel Town's annual glut of self- congratulatory awards," according to organizers.

Winners of eight of the nine Razzie categories were determined by votes from the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation's 800 members in the U.S. and overseas, while nominees in the ninth category, worst screen combo, were determined by votes from RottenTomatoes.com users.
