Preface: As many of you know, it has been a life-long challenge for me to discover the zen in the art of homemaking. Sooooo… Yesterday when they got to the part in Relief Society meeting in which the sisters shared good news I turned to my friend and admitted the following: “I can’t say this out loud, but my good news is I

It’s horrible time to go. There must be the stuff of miracles in the water, as three of my favorite bloggers have recently announced long-awaited and dearly hoped-for pregancies. I just made a bunch of brand new friends. And I realize that a blogger can dig herself into a pretty deep hole of anonimity with a long hiatus (unless you are

I was about to send a couple of cake recipes out via e-mail this morning, then I remembered the responses for Great Grandmother’s Spice Cake and decided to post them instead. I especially love desserts made with vegetables. Like another slice of cake is helping me get my 8-10 servings a day. Carrot Cake (this is probably one of the best

So like all good remodel projects this one hasn’t been without its setbacks. Aside from it being impossible to get someone from the flooring retailer (from whom I am resigned to purchase my carpet because their “bid” came in at about half of the one I got from RC Willey for the same carpet) to come and measure for the carpet

Yesterday–after two weeks of trying–I finally heard back from the carpet retailer and I now have a date on the calendar for them to measure my house for my new carpet. Wahoo! It’s not a lot of new carpet. We have some pretty beat up wood flooring in the upstairs bedrooms, tile in the kitchen and we are putting wood in the dining

I’m quite sure by now you are all sick and tired of reading about my remodel. But let me tell you, you’re probably not quite so sick of hearing about it as I am of doing it! You write what you know and right now this is all I know. Tonight, after painstakingly applying yards and yards of blue masking tape and just as I was thinking

My to-do list today is as long as my right arm and my head is still stuffy. So I’m broadcasting reruns. Maybe it will be new to you. Wish you all the merriest of Christmases and the happiest of new years! It’s almost two a.m. On the average Christmas Eve (now evolved into morn) I’ve barely been in bed for half an hour, but

I know it is better to give than to receive, but you know how great it feels when someone gives you the perfect gift? Even better than you could have chosen for yourself? That’s when “getting” makes you feel like someone just made you queen for a day. Or something equally as grand. Remember this? I’ve been pretty good about

In keeping with my intentions to make 2008 a year of more or less, I’ve been searching for simple but appealing recipes that would entice my family to spend more time gathered together around the dinner table. Due to the great responses to a previous post about soup (I know, for some it’s just old news, but for those of you are

So not really, but it was a heck of a lot cheaper–especially when you consider it made dinner for seven and then there were leftovers–than dining out. Recently I saw this recipe posted on The Serrano Sistah’s Scintillating Savories (say that five times in a row really fast). I’ve been dying to try it, only I had an inside
