for the last few minutes of bathtime to warm up the lotion. We have a plethora of containers in the bath as toys for pouring water, so I just filled one, let it drift in the bath and left the bottle in it. Voila! Warmer lotion, happier girl. We also use the time-tested hack of warming up the towels in the dryer for that

A timely hack from the Hengst family: Put an extra shower curtain rod in your shower to hang wet towels and swimsuits from in the summertime. The water drips right into the shower and not on the floor. If you happen to be remodeling your bathroom, there's a double shower curtain rod for just this purpose. A small tension curtain rod

Leslie's practical "get it all clean at once" hack: My hack came about as we were supposed to have someone come over for dinner and I really needed to clean the guest bathroom. But with two kids (18 months and 3 months) time is precious and I never got around to it. So the other night, I decided to give my son a bath in the bathroom

Carly's tip for destickifying a toddler: We bathe my daughter Lucy, 15 months, every other day. The days between we always wash her face and hands with soap and water, but it's been a struggle to hold her dangling over the edge of the sink -- she wants to dive into the water, splash me, her and the rest of the bathroom. Finally, a *duh* light

Toothbrushing + toddler how-to, from Rachel: My daughter is 2.5 and is able to regularly brush her teeth, but does not always want to. If I want to get in there to finish the job, I encourage her to open wide by singing "Ah!" like when the doctor looks down her throat. When a regular "Ah!" gets boring, we

Booger removal: we've all got our methods. Here's Stormy's: Our 9 month-old seems to have a constantly runny nose and he hates to have his nose wiped. (What baby doesn't?) My boyfriend came up with the perfect solution for those crusty boogers - he tweezers them out. For some reason our baby doesn't mind the tweezers - he

Squid Soap: good idea, poor execution

I was recently sent a review sample of Squid Soap by the makers of Airborne. The parent hack potential was high: the idea is that kids "ink" their hands with the built-in stamp, then wash with the soap for 20 seconds to get it off. Turns out the CDC says that 20 seconds of scrubbing is what it takes to properly get rid of the germs.

You've seen the hilarious videos at DadLabs, right? Of course you have. These are the guys who tested breast pumps ON THEMSELVES and dramatized the disaster that is poop in the tub (you may never eat canned chili again). They also interviewed a certain Parent Hacks publisher when she was in Austin last Spring (now THAT was a fun day). Well, a

Ashley rescued the mustard and ketchup bottles from the recycling bin: If you wash them really well, empty mustard and ketchup bottles make great bathtub squirt toys. If you use powdered tempera paint, they also make great dispensers! Related: Don't throw away that perineum bottle!

From Rachel: My daughter hated, HATED to have her hair washed. For about two years washing her hair was one of my least favorite chores. She'd kick and scream so loudly that I would honestly worry the neighbors would call the police. [Haven't we all wondered about that at one time or another? - Ed.] My husband came up

Rachael shares her solution to an age-old problem: Here's my hack for removing those pesky band-aids that kids love to put on and HATE to have taken off: If you dip a cotton ball or q-tip in oil (olive or baby) and rub it against the band-aid, it will allow the band-aid to just fall right off. We've eliminated a lot of screaming in our house

Ah, the joys of detangling long hair. Here's how Amy manages the tresses: Both my girls have long hair. One has long, blonde locks with an ultra-sensitive head, and the other has very curly, red hair and just doesn't like to have it brushed. Well, needless to say, after a bath, it was nearly impossible to get any tangles out (even with the
