Judy Blume fans will have to wait until summer of 2015 before they can get their hands on a copy of her next novel. But take heart, readers! The author offered up a pleasing treat just in time for the holidays in the form of details.

While Blume is best known for her children and young adult titles — including classics like "Freckle Juice," "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" and "Deenie" — she's returning to the adult genre after a 16-year break with "In the Unlikely Event."

The fictional tale revolves around the real-life series of airplane crashes that occurred in Elizabeth, New Jersey, over the course of three months in 1951-1952.

"These events have lingered in my mind ever since,” Blume, who was just a teen at the time of the incidents, said in a statement. "It was a crazy time. We were witnessing things that were incomprehensible to us as teenagers. Was it sabotage? An alien invasion? No one knew, and people were understandably terrified.”

In "In the Unlikely Event," Blume has a chance to explore the answers — as she imagines them.

"Judy has been hinting at writing this book for many years," Blume's editor, Carole Baron, told People. "And I think she finally got to a point in her life when she couldn't hold on to the story any longer."

But don't expect the text to focus strictly on the crashes. Ultimately, like all Blume books, the focus will be on the all-too-real lives of her characters.

A description on the Knopf Doubleday Publishing website promises readers will follow characters as they cope "not only with grief but with first love, estranged parents, difficult friendships, familial obligations, divorce, career ambitions, a grandparent’s love, a widower’s hope, and everything in between."
