As London swelters under dog-day temperatures and Olympic crowds, Matt Lauer made a bold (if practical) fashion move: Going sockless.
Though he's rocked the risqué look before, his style still scandalized a fashion traditionalist like Tom Brokaw. “I’m going to take up a collection and see if we can buy Matt a pair of socks," he joked.
The sporty appearance has apparently gained popularity this summer, with stars like Ryan Gosling showing loafer-cleavage in public. And Ryan Seacrest noticed the "mankle" trend, tweeting a pic of Matt as evidence.
But Tom and Ryan shouldn't worry: Matt told TODAY.com the look won't last. "It’s summer and it’s 85 [degrees]. It’s the Olympics. I will be back to my traditional socks Monday morning.”
And, after nearly three weeks in London, Matt hinted on TODAY that his sockless style may be less of a choice than a necessity: "I'm out of laundry."
