The TODAY family is proud to announce that one of its own has claimed the prestigious 2013 NAHJ Ñ Award for “Online Journalist of the Year.” The National Association of Hispanic Journalists has given the accolade to TODAY’s Coordinating Tape Producer Feliciano Garcia, specifically for his work creating, producing and hosting “Cafecito” for NBC Latino.
A series designed to shine a light on the work of influential Latino innovators, “Cafecito” has profiled actress and humanitarian Jessica Alba; actor, director and producer Gael Garcia Bernal; Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Diaz; TODAY anchor Natalie Morales (see below), and many others.
“I created 'Cafecito' because I felt it was important to share the inspirational stories and achievements from the leaders, artists and thinkers who shape the Latino community,” Garcia tells TODAY.com. “Whether speaking to a movie star like Michelle Rodriguez or a Pulitzer Prize-winning author like Junot Diaz, you learn that the obstacles these people have overcome and the passion they have to give back is nothing short of amazing.
“It feels really good to share 'Cafecito' with the community, and I hope everyone finds them entertaining and motivational. I am truly honored and humbled to receive the Ñ Award for 'Cafecito.' To be recognized on a national level by my peers is truly a dream come true.”
The entire TODAY/NBC News family congratulates Feliciano for this honor and his great work.
