Pippa Middleton: How I kept my relationship with newly-royal Kate ‘very normal’

Royal duties may take Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, thousands of miles away – but according to her sister Pippa Middleton, the distance hasn’t put any dent in their relationship.

“I mean, obviously she has pressures that she's taken on and things. But we spend a lot of time together. We still do a lot together as a family,” Middleton, 30, told TODAY’s Matt Lauer in her first-ever television interview.

The worldwide exclusive will air in two parts on TODAY Monday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 1. Update: See Pippa Middleton's interview with Matt Lauer

“I think that's really the heart for all of us is having a really close family that we can sort of be normal with each other, treat each other normally. And that's sort of kept us all, you know, affixed to the ground.”

Matt asked whether she’s able to call any night and say, ‘Hey, Kate, it's Pippa. Let's just do girl talk like we used to,’ and Pippa responded in the affirmative.

“Yeah, we do we have a very normal, sisterly relationship. We're very close. And, you know, we support each other and get each other's opinions and things.”

Middleton joined Matt on TODAY Wednesday, just moments after the pair sat down for her first-ever television interview.

The party-planner, author, bike-rider and – ahem – bridesmaid-dress-wearer also discussed her recent 3,000-mile, 12-state bike trip for Bike Across America, and her impressions of the United States.

“I love it. It's very friendly, very welcoming. And we felt that the entire way. The scenery was incredible. And I think that what lifted our spirits when it really hurt, sort of grinding on the bike, was to see everything around us. From the mountains, the desert — through the flat plains of Kansas.”
