Talking the talk: Learn Russian with Willie as he settles into Sochi

Feb. 7, 2014 at 8:25 AM ET

The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics are finally here, and Willie Geist has made his makeshift home in Sochi.

In order to better adapt to the native culture, Willie decided to tackle a word or phrase on each of his first few days in Sochi and relay his new knowledge to Al and Natalie back here in the U.S.

However, if you watch the videos, you'll quickly see that Natalie might not need much help when it comes to learning the local lingo.

Lesson 1: "Thank you" (but not "you're welcome")

Video: While reporting from Sochi, Russia, TODAY’s Willie Geist is teaching Natalie Morales and Al Roker the basics of the Russian language, including one of the most important phrases: “Thank you.”

Lesson 2: "Hello" and "goodbye"
