It's a day New Yorkers will always remember: the day the nation's biggest blackout paralyzed much of the Northeast, including New York City, a decade ago.

Hitting the East Coast just after 4 p.m. Aug. 14, 2003, the widespread outages reached as far west as Toledo, Ohio, and as far north as Ottawa, Ontario.

Not even the TODAY studio was immune to the blackout: The Aug. 15, 2003, broadcast of the show was forced outside due to lingering outages from the day before.

The blackout affected everything from public transit to office closings to entire water systems. Making matters worse, it just so happened it took place on the hottest day that August, leaving millions to suffer through the sweltering heat without air conditioning.

Even after 10 years, many of the esitimated 50 million people who were left without power remember how it affected them. Do you have a story from the 2003 blackout? Tweet us using #WhenTheLightsWentOut.
