Davy Jones' death resonated with one of TODAY's own: Al Roker, who had performed with The Monkees last year in New York City.

"A little bit of my youth just died," he tweeted soon after he heard the news.

"We were all stunned when we heard the news," said the co-anchor on TODAY Thursday while reporting live from Harrisburg, Illinois, where he's been covering the extensive tornado damage. "He will be missed.

"He had such a great sense of humor. He really enjoyed life," Al continued. "He was the guy who was kind of instigating the fun during our shoot."
