1) Bullied bus monitor receives an apology
Video of middle school children taunting New York bus monitor Karen Klein to tears went viral in June 2012. A vacation fund for the woman topped $650,000, and more than 53,000 viewers offered support for Klein on our Facebook page.
2) Barbie goes bald to help sick kids
An online campaign urging toy-maker Mattel to create a hairless version of the iconic doll proved successful after Mattel announced that a bald "friend of Barbie" is in the works. More than 10,000 TODAY Facebook fans cheered the decision.
3) Flash mob! Channing Tatum's plaza dance
Some posts surprise us when they go viral. Others, less so. We all had a hunch that a post about Channing Tatum showing off his stripping would do well.
4) Girl’s best friend is a dog who carries her oxygen
Alida Knobloch, a 3-year-old girl who must use an oxygen tank at all times to continue breathing, has found a lifesaver and best friend in her service dog, who carries her tank, enabling her to roam and play.
5) Anchors get funky for a 1974 flashback
TODAY anchors helped People magazine celebrate its 35th anniversary by donning '70s duds and shaggy hairdos. The silly image posted in 2009 quickly became our most liked Facebook update at the time.
6) Elephant, lioness mothers rescue their animal babies
Two pictures posted nearly 10 months apart struck a similar chord with our readers. In the first, a mama lion braves a steep cliff to pull her cub to safety. The second shows a mother elephant using her trunk to pull her baby boy out of a muddy watering hole. "All moms are the same," Nikole Will Jameson wrote on our wall. "Fur or skin, we love our children."
7) After Christmas death, teen leaves online message behind
Ben Breedlove died on Christmas Day of a heart condition. But the teenager left behind two wordless videos on his YouTube channel, in which he used a series of note cards with handwritten messages to tell his life story. "I cried like a baby watching this," Veita McCoy Lyle wrote on our Facebook page. "Everyone needs to watch."
8) Dog mourns at casket of fallen Navy SEAL
Navy SEAL Jon Tumilson lay in a coffin at his wake, draped in an American flag, after dying in Afghanistan. Soon an old friend appeared, and like a fellow soldier on a battlefield, his loyal dog refused to leave him behind.
9) Moms celebrate their post-baby bodies
Fed up with celebrities flaunting their perfect post-baby bods, a group of moms (with the help of some peer encouragement and liquid courage) grabbed a camera and bared their real post-pregnancy bodies to the world. And nearly 51,000 TODAY Facebook fans shouted: "You go, girls!"
10) Ted Williams, dubbed the "man with the golden voice"
Panhandling only days before a video went viral and earned him the nickname the "man with the golden voice," Ted Williams appeared on TODAY and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he received -- including nearly 14,000 Facebook Likes in early 2011. His story took many twists and turns, but 6,500 Facebook cheered the news 15 months later when Williams rejoined TODAY and said he has been sober for a year.
